Lavinite is a composite material invented around 1912 by Willy Henker, who established the factory "Kunststein-Industrie W. Henker & Co" in Berlin. It consists of metal particles, typically iron, and sand bound together by solidified molten sulfur, creating a substance resembling marble. Henker's factory produced various decorative items from lavinite, including vases, candlesticks, lamps, chandeliers, and rosettes, often featuring Art Nouveau, antique, oriental, and Art Deco designs. In 1922, the company expanded to New York City, leading to lavinite's popularity in the United States. Henker subsequently sold production patents to the U.S., France, Austria, and Poland.
