Itzchak Tarkay (1935-2012) was a Hungarian-born Israeli artist who survived the Mauthausen concentration camp before immigrating to Israel in 1949. He received scholarships to the Bezalel Art Academy and the Avni Institute of Art, where he graduated in 1956. Tarkay worked in acrylic and watercolor, focusing on the female figure using simplicity of form, line, and a rich, Toulouse-Lautrec-like palette. He successfully defended his unique style in a landmark trade dress lawsuit, and his works are widely exhibited in public and private collections globally.
