(2) Hungarian Herend Porcelain Hand Painted Animal Figurines. One is a smiling bear with delicate green repeating patterns and gold hued accents, and the other is a sprawling frog with a similar pattern in a slightly darker color and gold hued accents. Both are marked on the undersides.

Herend Porcelain, founded in 1826 in Hungary, became famous under Mór Fischer, who turned it into a leading supplier for European aristocracy and the Habsburg court by the mid-19th century. The company gained international acclaim at major exhibitions and created patterns named for patrons like Queen Victoria and the Rothschilds. After periods of decline and near bankruptcy, Eugen Fischer revived the factory around 1900 with new designs. Nationalized in 1948 and privatized in 1993, Herend still produces luxury hand-painted porcelain today, exporting to over 60 countries while maintaining many classic patterns and operating its own museum.
