Artist Biographie:
Hirosada Konishi (1819-1863) was a prominent Japanese ukiyo-e artist, particularly celebrated for his woodblock prints of kabuki actors, a genre known as yakusha-e. Working primarily in Osaka, he was a key figure in the Osaka school of printmaking, which was known for its distinctive style and focus on kabuki themes. Hirosada's work is characterized by its refined lines, dramatic use of color, and attention to the emotional intensity of his subjects. He often depicted close-up portraits of actors, capturing their expressive faces in moments of intense drama. Although not as widely known as some of his Edo counterparts, Hirosada's contributions to ukiyo-e and kabuki iconography have been increasingly recognized, solidifying his legacy as a master of actor portraits.
