The Herend Porcelain Manufactory, founded in 1826 in Hungary, rose to prominence under Mór Fischer, who turned it into a leading supplier of luxury hand-painted porcelain for European aristocracy, including the Habsburgs. Showcasing its work at major international exhibitions in the 19th century, Herend became known for iconic patterns named after royal clients like Queen Victoria. Though the company faced decline and near bankruptcy, it was revitalized by Fischer’s grandson in the early 1900s and survived through wars and nationalization under Soviet rule. Since its privatization in 1993, Herend has thrived, producing traditional porcelain and exporting globally, while preserving its legacy through a museum and continued craftsmanship.
