Gorham Silver is an iconic American silver manufacturer founded in 1831 in Providence, Rhode Island, by Jabez Gorham. Under his son John, the company grew from making coin-silver spoons and small items into the U.S.’s largest and most influential silver firm. Gorham was known for combining skilled craftsmanship with mechanized production, hiring talented designers, and launching popular flatware and hollowware patterns—most famously the “Chantilly” pattern—as well as the high-art “Martelé” line, celebrated for its handcrafted, Art Nouveau style pieces. Over its long history, Gorham produced everything from everyday flatware to grand presentation services, church silver, sculptures, and magnificent showpieces, leaving a major legacy in American decorative arts.
