George Morland (1763-1804) was an English painter renowned for his lively and naturalistic depictions of rural life, rustic cottages, animals, and scenes of everyday working‐class existence. A precocious talent trained under his father, Morland became known for his loose, expressive brushwork and his ability to convey warmth, character, and narrative in seemingly simple genre scenes. Despite his artistic success, he struggled with debt and a bohemian lifestyle that contributed to his early death, yet his prolific output and influence on British genre painting secured his lasting place in art history.
