Eugene de Blaas (24 July 1843 – 10 February 1931), also known as Eugenio Blaas or Eugene von Blaas, was an Italian painter in the Academic Classicism tradition. Born in Albano, near Rome, to Austrian parents, he studied under his father, Karl von Blaas, a prominent history and fresco painter. The family relocated to Venice when Karl became a professor at the Academy of Venice. Eugene de Blaas established himself as a leading painter of Venetian genre scenes, capturing the daily life of the city's inhabitants with meticulous detail and vibrant color. His works often depicted Venetian women engaged in everyday activities, such as washing clothes or interacting with their environment, showcasing their beauty and grace. De Blaas's paintings were exhibited at esteemed institutions, including the Royal Academy in London, and he gained recognition for his ability to infuse ordinary scenes with a sense of elegance and charm. His legacy endures through his contributions to 19th-century genre painting and his portrayal of Venetian life.
