(2) Chinese Famille Rose Green Glaze Porcelain Plates. Two Chinese famille rose decorative plates with celadon glaze ground, hand-painted scenes. Larger plate with mother watching children fly kites in a courtyard; one with mandarin ducks in pond.

Famille rose porcelain refers to a style of Chinese porcelain decoration that features soft, opaque enamels in a palette dominated by pinks, introduced during the Qing Dynasty, particularly flourishing under the Yongzheng (1722–1735) and Qianlong (1736–1795) emperors. The term “famille rose” (French for “pink family”) was coined by European collectors to distinguish it from earlier palettes like famille verte (“green family”). This technique uses a white enamel base mixed with colloidal gold to create delicate pink tones, which are then layered with other colors to produce finely shaded, painterly effects. Famille rose wares often depict intricate floral motifs, elegant court scenes, birds, and auspicious symbols, reflecting both imperial tastes and popular themes of the time. The combination of artistic refinement, vibrant color, and technical innovation made famille rose porcelain highly prized both within China and abroad, and it remains a favorite among collectors of Qing-era ceramics.
