(2) Antique Balinese 3-Drawer Carved Cabinets. Pair of Balinese carved wood three-drawer cabinets, two smaller drawer and one larger, with carved floral panels. Approximately 200 y ears old.

Balinese wood carving is a highly refined traditional art form rooted in the spiritual and cultural life of Bali, Indonesia, known for its intricate detail, flowing lines, and symbolic meaning. Often carved from locally sourced woods such as teak, hibiscus, or crocodile wood, these works depict deities, mythological creatures, floral patterns, and scenes from Hindu epics like the Ramayana. Historically used to adorn temples, homes, and ceremonial objects, Balinese carvings serve both decorative and sacred purposes, reflecting the island’s strong connection between art, religion, and daily life. Master carvers, often trained from a young age, use chisels and knives to create remarkably detailed figures and reliefs by hand. Today, Balinese wood carving remains a vibrant and respected tradition, appreciated worldwide for its craftsmanship, beauty, and cultural richness.
