(2) Antique 19th Century English Minor Surgical and Pocket Instrument Sets. One is in a leather-bound case with blue felt interior and brass accents, holding bone-handled thin implements like scalpels, needles, and small blades. The larger piece is a rich mahogany box with brass hinges and accents, holding bone-handled curved and straight blades such as scalpels, bistouries, and tenaculums secured with a brass swivel-latch.
A bottom compartment/tray holds a collection of narrow tools, probes, and hooks nested in a fitted wooden frame, similarly bone-handled. The largest implements are marked "Coxeter London," indicating they were produced between 1836 when the renowned manufacturer was founded by James Coxeter (evolving into J. Coxeter & Co., J. Coxeter & Son, James Coxeter & Son, and Coxeter Limited) and 1923 when the company was absorbed by the British Oxygen Company.
