In 1940 an executive of the New York-based wholesale grocer Austin Nichols & Co. named Thomas McCarthy shared a private supply of rye-based bourbon during a wild turkey hunting trip, and the eager response to its quality led the company to begin distributing their own brand under the name Wild Turkey in 1942, sourced mainly from the fifty-year-old Ripy Brothers distillery in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky. Austin Nichols remained a non-distiller producer for several decades while the brand became wildly successful, and eventually purchased the facility itself, then known as Boulevard Distillery, and changed the name to Wild Turkey Distillery. In 1980 it was acquired by Pernod Ricard, which retained the low corn mash as well as their flagship line of 101 proof bourbon, but a massive fire in 2000 destroyed 17,000 barrels of aging whiskey, contaminating the local water supply for a time and leading to an eventual sale of the distillery and the brand to Campari Group in 2009. Today they continue to produce new works, with most of their bottling done in Indiana and Arkansas, but older whiskeys from their catalogue are still highly sought by collectors and bourbon and rye aficionados around the world.

Empty. Damage to cork, box, and styrofoam.
