Orient & Flume Art Glass Vase. Art glass vase with ribbed body texture and foliate motif. Marked O&F 1973 on base.

Orient & Flume is a renowned American studio glass company founded in 1972 in Chico, California, by Douglas Boyd in a restored Victorian carriage house located on Orient and Flume Streets—hence the name. Initially inspired by the iridescent, silver-luster glass of master glassmakers like Tiffany and Loetz, the studio quickly developed its own distinctive style, producing elaborate art glass pieces that often encapsulate intricate botanical or animal motifs. Known for their signed, limited-edition vases and paperweights, Orient & Flume’s work showcases techniques such as pulled-feather effects and multi-layered encasings. Prominent artists like Bruce Sillars, Scott Beyers, and Ed Seaira have contributed to the studio’s signature aesthetic. Their pieces are held in the permanent collections of major institutions including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Smithsonian, and the Corning Glass Museum, and are highly sought after by collectors for their luminous quality and refined craftsmanship.
