1940 Barovier and Toso Green and Gold Bowl. Unique green color with a crackled gold leaf applique on interior. Also known as Rilievo Aurati style. "Rilievo Aurati" in Murano glass refers to a specific design style or technique that incorporates gold leaf and often features a raised or relief texture. Produced in 1940.

A member provided the suggestion of similarities to the ‘rivieli aurati’ (gold relief or gold prominences). This then provided more search parameters with Jeana finding similar bowls on an auction site and Elisabetta found similar examples in two Murano books. Even though I own both books I didn’t think to look in them as I could not remember ever seeing anything like this piece before.
I was 99% certain I had the furnace correct, I just needed the further confirmation.
According to Heiremans (2000), Murano Glass, Themes and Variations, the bowls required several successive techniques to accomplish the finished product. The main one involved moulds to create the raised patterns. In the book Art of Barovier (ed.) Marina Barovier (1997), the other interesting décor element is explained. The granite-like appearance (see image 5) is achieved by not fully melting the coloured glass elements. The technique was made with both gold and silver leaf.
