Saint Nicholas of Myra was a Christian bishop who lived in the 4th century in the city of Myra, in what is now Türkiye. Renowned for his generosity, compassion, and care for the poor, he became the subject of many legends, including stories of secretly providing money to needy families and protecting children and sailors. Although few historical details about his life are certain, his reputation for charity spread widely throughout the Christian world, making him one of the most venerated saints in both Eastern and Western traditions. Over the centuries, traditions associated with Saint Nicholas evolved into the modern figure of Santa Claus, especially through European folklore and later cultural adaptations.
