Confederate States of America Five Hundred Dollars Loan Bond Document. Framed loan bond for five hundred dollars issued by the Congress of the Confederacy, 1863. Cannot be exchanged within the continental United States.

Confederate loan documents were financial instruments issued by the Confederate States of America during the Civil War to raise funds for their war effort. These bonds and certificates promised repayment with interest and were often sold to both domestic and foreign investors, particularly in Europe, despite the high risk associated with the Confederacy’s uncertain future. Printed with ornate designs and featuring images of Southern symbols, leaders, or agricultural wealth, these documents served both as economic tools and propaganda. After the Confederacy’s defeat in 1865, the loans became worthless, though many of the documents survive today as historical artifacts collected for their craftsmanship, rarity, and insight into the economic strategies and desperation of the Confederate government.
