Lot of 13 Books about Marquis de Lafayette, 1929 - 2006. This lot has thirteen books about the Marquis de Lafayette, one of America’s trusted friends from France during the Revolutionary War against the British in the late 1700’s. The titles are “La Fayette” a two-volume set by Brand Whitlock published by D. Appleton in 1929, with some penciled highlights in the margins; “Lafayette, A Life”, by Andreas Latzko and translated from the German by E. W. Dickes, and published by the Literary Guild in 1936; “Lafayette” by W. K. Woodward, a first edition published by Farrar & Rinehart in 1938, with a worn dustjacket and the Farrar Rinehart logo on the copyright page, which indicates a first edition; “Lafayette In America” by Louis Gottschalk, a first edition signed by the author and published in 1975 by L’Esprit de Lafayette Society in Arveyres, France, with a certificate stating this is a first edition, well bound, with the top edge gilt; “Lafayette In Two Worlds”, by Lloyd Kramer, a first edition published at the University of North Carolina in 1996, with an attractive dustjacket - it has a number line on the copyright page with the number 1 in it, which is how we know it is a first edition; “Lafayette In America In 1824 and 1825”, a presentation copy signed by the author, published in 2006, with “first edition “ stated on the copyright page, in an attractive dust jacket; “Lafayette In The French Revolution, From The October Days through the Federation” by Louis Gottschalk and Margaret Maddox, published by the University of Chicago Press in 1973, a first edition because it has only one date on the copyright page and no other printings; “Madame de Lafayette” by Constance Wright, a first edition (stated) by Henry Holt and published in 1959, with a dustjacket; “Statue In Search Of A Pedestal: A Biography of the Marquis de Lafayette”, published by Dodd Mead in 1976, with a dustjacket; “Emblem of Liberty: The Image of Lafayette in the American Mind, by Anne C. Loveland, published in 1971 by Louisiana State University, with a price-clipped dustjacket; a paperback titled “Harvard Honors Lafayette”, prepared by Agnes Morgan for an exhibit at Harvard to honor Lafayette in 1975, with the exhibits laid out, numbered, and described; and a large paperback in stiff wrapps titled “Lafayette, Hero of Two Worlds”, by Stanley J, Idzerda, Anne C. Loveland, and Marc H. Miller, published by the Queens Museum and signed by Gilbert de Pay Lafayette in 1990, Gilbert was probably a descendant of Lafayette’s, and the book comes with a letter of celebration to honor Lafayette Day Ceremonies at the Massachusetts State House on May 20,1991. The lot provides a wide range of information about Lafayette, the earlier books have modest wear, and the newer ones in dustjackets are in rather good shape, and the lot is sold as is. #234 #7020
