(12) Philippe Deshoulieres French Limoges Porcelain Vineyard Plates
This decorative porcelain plate was crafted by Philippe Deshoulieres, a prestigious French porcelain manufacturer based in Limoges, a region world-famous for its high-quality porcelain. The backstamp indicates it was decorated in Foëcy and is dishwasher safe ("lavage machine"). The design is inspired by the original 19th-century work of J. Vieillard & Cie, a Bordeaux-based porcelain maker, whose whimsical figure and ribbon banner are also featured on the backstamp as a tribute.
The front of one of the plate features a beautifully detailed, hand-colored illustration of Château Lafite Rothschild, one of Bordeaux’s most celebrated wine estates and a First Growth (Premier Cru) classified in 1855. Surrounding the central vignette are the words “Pauillac,” “Gironde,” “Bordeaux,” and “Château Lafite Rothschild,” situating the château geographically. The ornate border, decorated with grapevines and medallions reading "Pauillac," underscores the plate’s wine heritage. It’s likely part of a collector’s series celebrating famous Bordeaux wine estates. Other plates have similar designs featuring other local estates / vineyards.
Size: 7 1/4 x 7 1/4 in.
