This set contains The Complete Works of Alfred de Musset, a French poet and novelist who lived from 1810 to 1857. He was interested in medicine and law and becamed one of the first Romantic writes in the 1820's. He grew up in poverty, but had a dandy side to him, and was friends with the French King Louis Philippe I in the 1830's and 40's. He also had an affair with the famous French novelist George Sand and was elected to the Legion d'honneur in 1845. The books are translated into English and are a limited edition of 1000 copies, in a complete set of ten, from the Edition de Luxe published in 1908 by C T Brainard. The books are 3/4 bound, with the top edge gilt, five raised bands, marbleized covers and endpapers, and most of the titles have missing or partial labels however it does not take away from the attraction of the set.
